{"id":1125,"date":"2012-08-16T15:59:28","date_gmt":"2012-08-16T14:59:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silver-stage.precision.co.uk\/?p=1125"},"modified":"2012-08-16T17:55:50","modified_gmt":"2012-08-16T16:55:50","slug":"homebased-support-can-save-the-nhs-10000-a-year-per-person","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silvermarque.co.uk\/?p=1125","title":{"rendered":"Homebased support can save the NHS thousands a year per person"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone who has watched the recent television and news programmes over the last month about how the disabled, elderly and carers are struggling to cope at home, cannot have failed to realise that the contribution of both pensioners and carers is massively underestimated and undervalued.<\/p>\n<p>It was clear that those interviewed were well informed and\u00a0aware of their effective role and place in society, and therefore the\u00a0justification for further investment in their needs.<\/p>\n<p>In this context new evidence\u00a0in a recently published report showing that homebased support can save the NHS \u00a310,000 per person per year\u00a0comes as no real\u00a0surprise (source <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nef-consulting.co.uk\">NEF-Consulting<\/a>). What is surprising and shocking is that this support simply is not there for\u00a0too many people.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0communication between the GPs, social workers, patients and carers is not as proactive as it needs to be to action effective homebased support across the UK. It is a postcode lottery depending most on &#8216;he who shouts loudest&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The right aids for daily living and the help of a trained carer will inevitably prevent excessive bed blocking and improve quality of life, saving the NHS and the social services money in the short and the long term. These aids exist and there are some\u00a0excellent trained carers and others who could be trained.<\/p>\n<p>What is required is more political will and louder voices speaking out\u00a0and telling it how it is.
