Who do you turn to when a loved one becomes unable to care for themself?

The realisation that a parent or spouse is no longer fully able to care for themselves, is an extremely distressing time.  The importance of making the right decision with their care requirements is intimidating and the situation is often made worse by a lack of information available on care options.

Residential care homes are the automatic choice for many, but whilst they can provide a sense of community for older people, the relocation away from home can also cause anxiety – particularly for older people with dementia where familiarity and routine are so important to emotional well-being.

Live-in care at home allows older people to remain in their own homes surrounded by their belongings and with familiar people around them. Most people find this approach to care allows for greater independence.  Live in care also ensures that people are able to receive specialist one-to-one attention throughout the day; if that is want they want and require.   Even the very best care home is unable to match this level of bespoke personal attention.

The decision about how best to care for a loved one is never easy. Whether you choose live-in care, a residential care home or to care for a loved one yourself, if you are able to make that decision having fully considered your options you will feel much more comfortable with the decision you have made.
